The Randwick & Botany Supported Playgroup Service provides playgroups to parents and carers and their children aged up to 5 years during the school term. They are run at various sites throughout the local area (see playgroup Timetable).
Playgroups provide parents/carers with the opportunity to establish social networks and family support in a friendly non-judgemental environment. Increasing their parenting skills and confidence and accessing up to date information on child development, parenting and community or family support services.
For children, supported playgroups provide opportunities to play, interact with other children and strengthen developmental skills in a fun informal environment. Playgroups enhance the connection of families with their local communities.
The intention of the Randwick and Botany Supported playgroup service is to facilitate playgroups throughout the community that are accessible and welcoming for all families.
A unique aspect of our service is that through the relaxed setting at playgroup, we are able to build rapport with many families. This provides opportunities to role model interaction as well as parenting strategies whilst enhancing family relationships and increasing confidence.
Facilitators aim to arrange early intervention in a soft unintimidating manner as well as provide families with information on nutrition, home safety, child development and dental health.
Community connections are encouraged through guest speakers and informal information sessions.
